Personal Stories
Rev. Samuila Ali, Retiree, Nigeria
The Reverend Samuila Ali spent 30 years as a pastor. For many years, he ministered to multiple
congregations at the same time—serving 35 different congregations over his career in the Church. He also supported other pastors through
his role as a district superintendent for three years. When his eyesight failed, he stepped down. He later was blessed to receive donated medical
care from a United Methodist hospital, the Zing Rural Health Center; the cataract surgery restored his vision. Today, Rev. Ali and his family survive
on occasional token payments since a pension is not available from his conference.
The Central Conference Pension Initiative was started to provide a retirement with dignity to retired pastors, such as Rev. Ali,
and their surviving spouses. To find out more about the initiative, explore www.ccpi-umc.org or write to
ccpi@gbophb.org. Donations can be made online or by calling 847-866-4230.
