Rev. Markus Wina, Retiree, Nigeria

The Reverend Markus Wina has been a loyal servant of the Church in multiple ways—as a teacher in a Methodist school and in a seminary, a church pastor and a district superintendent. He lives with his wife and six adult children.

After devoting several decades to the Church, he considers himself fortunate on the rare occasions when he can afford rice, because "for the very poor, it is a luxury," he says. Most days, his family subsists on maize and hopes there will be a little money left over for his medication.

The Central Conference Pension Initiative was started to provide a retirement with dignity to retired pastors, such as Rev. Wina, and their surviving spouses.
